5 Things to Know Before Booking a Floral Designer (From a Florist Who Gets It)
So you are engaged, planning a celebration, or dreaming up something beautiful. Maybe you are already pinning peonies like your life depends on it. Wherever you are in the planning process, floral design is one of those elements that can elevate an event from pretty to unforgettable. But where do you even start?
As someone who has been in the floral industry for over a decade and created everything from large-scale weddings to intimate dinner parties, here are five things I want you to know before booking your florist.
1. Reach out early, even if your vision is still evolving
Most floral designers book several months in advance, especially during peak seasons. If your event falls between May and September, it is wise to inquire as soon as you have a date and venue. You do not need every detail locked in yet. A good florist will help you shape your vision as you go.
At Studio B, I only take on a limited number of events per year so I can give each client my full creative energy. The earlier we connect, the better I can reserve your date and dream up something amazing with you.
2. Budget is part of the design process
Flowers are living, seasonal, and wildly unpredictable in the best way. A thoughtful floral designer will work with your budget and guide you on how to get the most impact without compromising style.
At Studio B, I offer full-service floral design for weddings and large events, as well as Brava Select for more intimate celebrations like elopements, private dinners, branding activations, and styled shoots. If you are unsure where you fit, just ask. I will always be honest about what is possible within your price range and recommend something that feels aligned with your priorities.
3. Your Pinterest board is a starting point,
not a blueprint
I love inspiration photos. They help me understand your taste, the colors you are drawn to, and the overall vibe you are going for. But no two events are the same, and that is the magic. Flowers are seasonal, designs are custom, and trends come and go. What lasts is how the florals made the space feel.
Instead of trying to copy a bouquet, let us focus on creating something personal and intentional. Something that feels like you.
4. Trust matters more than you think
The best floral designs happen when there is mutual trust. You bring the vision, the energy, and the story. I bring the creativity, the experience, and the skill to bring it to life.
Studio B is not about cookie-cutter arrangements. My goal is to design florals that feel layered, editorial, and emotionally resonant. That means I may suggest something unexpected, or choose a bloom because of its movement or tone rather than its trend status. When clients trust me to do what I do best, that is when the real magic happens.
5. Studio B is not one-size-fits-all , and that is the point
Not every event needs a full floral production. Some of my favorite work has come from small-scale celebrations with big energy. That is why I created Brava Select, a curated offering for intimate events that still deserve beauty, intention, and a little drama.
If your event does not meet the typical minimum but you think we would be a great fit, reach out anyway. I care more about connection than checklist perfection. If it feels right, we will find a way to make something beautiful together.
Let us create something unforgettable
Whether you are dreaming big or keeping it intentionally small, flowers should do more than fill a space. They should tell a story and make you feel something.
